Descripción del Tema de Investigación:
The scientific goal of this project is to perform a broad study of symbiotic binary systems, including a survey of those symbiotics accreting
at a high rate which are likely type Ia supernovae progenitors and an in-deep analysis of observational data of known systems to study
the nature of the accreting object and the accretion mechanism/s.
Symbiotic stars have been proposed to be progenitors of at least some type Ia Supernovae (SNIa), but comparisons with model predictions are
limited by the small number of known systems, and the few systems for which white dwarf mass and accretion rate are determined. With the
current and forthcoming supernova surveys, questions of how white dwarf in binary systems accumulate mass, interact, and erupt could not be more
timely. Our research will shed light into questions in different areas, from binary stellar evolution to modern cosmology.El becario deberá incorporarse a un programa formal de Doctorado acreditado por CONEAU.
